January 16,
2006 | It's not just Tom Cruise
who thinks post-partum
depression is a myth. As Karen writes
in:
"I forget
when I saw this, but a woman wrote
in to Ann Landers saying that she
had a young daughter but instead
of being happy, she was miserable.
Mrs. Landers told her to look into
post-partum depression. In response,
another reader wrote back a furious
response claiming that post-partum
depression was a patriarchial myth
designed to make woman blame their
bodies for a 'natural' resentment
of the children who 'stole' their
figures and careers. Of course,
Ann Lander's flip-flopped and praised
the letter-writer for her practical
sense and experience."
